Critical Conditions Survival Course

This course is an excellent way to increase your level of resilience and preparedness. It is only available to those who have previously completed the Basic course and that feel confident in their ability to build-onto and test their previously acquired knowledge and skills. Much new knowledge and many new skills are presented in this Advanced course.
This is a weekend course with training scheduled for Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
​This course is scenario-based. It will require the participants to complete a series of individual and group tasks in order to reach a final common goal. Everyone attending will have a chance to use their skills and knowledge in order to propel the scenario forward.​

Content
Emergency equipment and preparedness

Choosing and protecting your gear, packing a go bag, introduction to optical devices, mental and physical resilience
Advanced stop-bleed skills

Confirmation of trauma skills on mannequins, advanced suturing techniques
Map / compass / GPS navigation

Map and compass confirmation, introductory GPS navigation, 5-point GPS nav course through woods to find your lunch
Bushcraft skills

Individual and group shelters, fires by many methods, ground-to-air signals, water filtration, unknown plant edibility test
Situational factors
-
Situational awareness, practical knots and rope-work, steep hill descend / ascend by rope, tactical ground movement strategies
​Chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear (CBRN)

Combat respirator donn / doff review with live smoke practice


What To Expect
​Day 1 - The first day will be spent practicing field skills that were introduced during the Basic course. As long as there is no fire ban we will be able to set our signal fires ablaze and keep small fires going in the camp area.

Day 2 - The field-exercise will start the morning of day 2, at which point the participants will run through a 24-hour-long scenario that will test their existing skills as well as introduce many new ones along the way.
​
Day 3 - The scenario will propel forward until early afternoon, after which we will all clean-up, pack-up and head home.
Equipment
The following items are required by everyone attending the advanced course;

60 litre or larger rucksack, head-lamp.

Hydration bladder and a bottle or thermos that in-combination are able to hold at least 2 litres of water.

Sunglasses, work gloves, wristwatch, field knife.

Basic hygiene kit, wet-ones or baby wipes work great.

Undergarments, a toque, an intermediate and an outer clothing layer, any other clothing you may want.

Poncho or a rain suit and waterproof hiking boots.​​

Spare set of clothing stashed in your personal vehicle.

We can rent out rucksacks as needed. Included as part of the rucksack rental is either a hydration bladder or a thermos, either of which will be yours to keep after use. To rent our rucks please go to the register page.

​If you would like to bring any of your own survival items to try them out you are welcome to do so but please be aware that certain items such as camp stoves and sleeping bags will not be allowed during the scenario portion of the course.
All other Items required for the training such as field tools, medical supplies, tarps, glow-sticks and cordage will all be supplied to you.

Details
Physical health: Please appreciate that once the field portion commences each participant will be required to carry a 40 lb backpack for at least 5 km cross-country over the course of the weekend.​
Driving and rest policy: We will ensure that those who are driving from the course location back home after course completion will have a minimum of 8 consecutive hours of time set aside for sleep every night.​
​
Food and water: Humanitarian-relief field rations including high-calorie survival snacks will be supplied to all participants for the duration of the course. Clean tap water will also be supplied to everyone on a regular basis.
​
Restrooms: There will be access to a porta-potty.

Roads: The roads to this location are paved from all directions with the last 3 km being gravel road that is suitable for all vehicles.
